Cylindrical shafts without supports are made from high-quality thermally enhanced steel and feature induction hardening. This hardening provides a uniform hard outer layer while allowing for the machining of a softer inner layer of the shaft. The smoothness of the surface and the durable outer layer reduce friction, which extends the service life.
Features:
- Manufacturing tolerance: h6
- Surface hardness: HRC 58–64
- Surface roughness: 0.40 µm Ra
- Hardening depth: 0.8–2.8 mm
- Diameter: 6–80 mm
- Length tolerances: +/- 2 mm
Cylindrical shafts for CNC machines can withstand large dynamic and static loads. However, they may sag over long lengths under their own weight and high loads. Typically, guide shafts for 3D printers are used in smaller working areas.
Cylindrical shafts come in various diameters, hardness classes, and manufacturers. A support-free shaft for a 3D printer can either shorten or extend the lifespan of your device, depending on the manufacturer. The cylindrical steel shaft without support is made from high-quality steel, free of voids, with a smooth and hardened surface. For most machines and load requirements, cylindrical ground shafts can be used; if the load is higher, one can switch to supported shafts. In terms of price, unsupported shafts are the most economical. However, it’s essential to consider the longevity of the guide shaft without support; choose reliable suppliers and manufacturers to ensure that the price and service life of the shaft align.
3DTrade offers support-free shafts in standard lengths of 500, 1000, and 2000 mm, which are the most relevant sizes for most machines.
